U.S. Eases Sanctions on Syria, Allowing Financial Interactions with Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, and Ukraine

The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a general license and accompanying FAQs that ease sanctions on Syria. This move follows a recent decision by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, which is expected to be formalized next week. The new sanctions waivers will allow for greater financial and economic interactions with Syria, particularly benefiting Arab states such as Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE, as well as Ukraine. This initiative aims to support Syria's transitional government and facilitate international assistance.
