A preliminary earthquake with a magnitude ranging from 5.6 to 5.8 struck near Yerington, Nevada, close to the California-Nevada border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at approximately 3:08 pm local time, with its epicenter located about 14 miles northeast of Yerington. The earthquake was felt across a wide area, including parts of Northern California, the Bay Area, and as far as downtown Las Vegas. The California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is coordinating with local, state, and federal partners to assess impacts and provide necessary resources following the event. The ShakeAlert system was activated, and aftershocks of magnitudes 3.2 and 3.0 were reported shortly after the main quake.
