Gus Malzahn Resigns as UCF Head Coach to Become FSU's Offensive Coordinator and Play-Caller
Nov 30, 2024, 09:36 PM
UCF head coach Gus Malzahn is reportedly resigning to become the new offensive coordinator and play-caller at Florida State University, according to sources including ESPN's Pete Thamel. Malzahn's tenure at UCF ends after four years with a record of 28-24. This move signifies a rare shift of a head coach stepping down to take a coordinator position elsewhere, similar to Chip Kelly's move from UCLA to Ohio State. Florida State's spokesperson confirmed, "We have identified our next offensive coordinator and will have an official announcement once the hiring process is complete." Malzahn is expected to assume play-calling duties, indicating that head coach Mike Norvell may be handing over those responsibilities for the first time since his tenures at Memphis and FSU. Malzahn's first game as FSU's offensive coordinator is expected to be against Alabama in Tallahassee on August 30.
