Dec 27, 2024, 09:56 PM
Vanderbilt University defeated Georgia Tech 35-13 in the Birmingham Bowl at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. In rainy conditions, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia accounted for five touchdowns, three passing and two rushing, leading the Commodores to their first winning season since 2013. Pavia, who threw for 160 yards and rushed for 80 yards, connected with tight ends Cole Spence and Eli Stowers, and wide receiver Quincy Skinner for touchdown passes, and scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 2-yard run on fourth down in the second quarter. Vanderbilt's scoring opened with an 8-play, 87-yard drive capped by Pavia's 7-yard touchdown pass to Spence. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Ryland Goede in the second quarter after a 15-play, 74-yard drive. Kicker Aidan Birr added two field goals for the Yellow Jackets, from 43 and 33 yards. The game was halted with 7:17 remaining due to a lightning delay, with Vanderbilt firmly in control.
