Trump's Approval Rating Hits +6 Net, 47% in First Month of Second Term
Jan 27, 2025, 01:00 PM
President Donald Trump's approval ratings have surged to historic levels at the start of his second term, according to recent polls. A Reuters/Ipsos poll from January 20-21, 2025, showed Trump with a 47% approval rating and a net approval rating of +6, a nine-point increase from the beginning of his first term in 2017. This marks the highest approval rating Trump has achieved, surpassing any point during his first term. CNN data analyst Harry Enten highlighted this shift, noting that Trump is the first president to have a higher net approval rating in the first month of his second term than at any point during his entire first term. Enten also pointed out that more Americans currently approve of Trump's job performance than disapprove, a significant change from previous sentiments. Trump's second term has been characterized by a series of executive orders, including the U.S. exit from the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization, as well as efforts to address illegal immigration with over 530 arrests and deportations. Additionally, Trump has nominated Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.
