US Job Openings Reach 8.1 Million in November

US job openings unexpectedly rose to 8.098 million in November, the highest since June 2024, surpassing estimates of 7.74 million and up from October's 7.839 million, according to the latest JOLTS data released by the Labor Department. The job openings rate increased from 4.6% to 4.8%, indicating continued strength in the labor market, boosted by a jump in business services. Layoffs were little changed, with the layoffs level at 1.765 million and the layoffs rate steady at 1.1%. However, the number of quits decreased to 3.065 million, and the quits rate declined to 1.9% from 2.1%, suggesting some cooling in worker confidence.
