Turkey Allows DEM Delegation to Visit PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan Today or Tomorrow Ahead of Year-End
Dec 26, 2024, 08:14 AM
Turkey has authorized a delegation from the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (DEM) to visit Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). This decision follows a call from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli for dialogue between the DEM party and Öcalan. The delegation, consisting of DEM party members Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan, is expected to travel to İmralı Island, where Öcalan is incarcerated, either today or tomorrow. Turkish media reports suggest that the visit could take place within the next four days, before the end of the current calendar year. Additionally, a separate delegation from the Turkish Parliament (TBMM) is scheduled to visit Sednaya Prison in Syria on December 30 to investigate alleged human rights violations by the Assad regime.
