Senator Fetterman to Meet President-elect Trump at Mar-a-Lago, Says He's Senator for All
Jan 9, 2025, 07:07 PM
Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has accepted an invitation from President-elect Donald Trump to meet at his Mar-a-Lago estate, making him the first sitting Democratic senator to meet with Trump after his victory in the 2024 election. Fetterman stated, 'President Trump invited me to meet, and I accepted. I'm the Senator for all Pennsylvanians—not just Democrats in Pennsylvania.' He added, 'I think it's pretty reasonable that if the President would like to have a conversation, or invite someone to have a conversation, to have it. And no one is my gatekeeper.' When asked about the meeting, Fetterman said, 'I don't have a specific message. I don't know what his is. It's just about a conversation.' He indicated willingness to work with the President-elect on areas of common interest, mentioning issues such as the Laken Riley Act, the border, Israel, and China. Fetterman is among the few Democratic senators to have met with Trump's cabinet nominees.
