Mike Gundy Agrees to Restructured Contract at Oklahoma State, Redirecting Salary to NIL
Dec 7, 2024, 04:03 AM
Oklahoma State University and its head football coach, Mike Gundy, have reached an agreement in principle on a restructured contract, ending a standoff that began after a disappointing 2024 season where the team finished with a 3-9 record. The new deal includes a reduction in Gundy's $7.75 million salary, which will be redirected towards Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) payments for players, and a decrease in his buyout, previously set at over $24 million. The negotiations followed a special meeting by the Oklahoma A&M Colleges Board of Regents, which discussed Gundy's employment status. Gundy, who has been with the Cowboys for 20 seasons and has 18 consecutive winning seasons, will now coach his 21st season at Oklahoma State.
