Biden Approves $500M Military Aid for Ukraine, Including Air Defense Systems and $20B Loan

The Biden administration has approved a new military aid package for Ukraine, marking the 72nd such drawdown package since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This latest aid package, valued at around $500 million, includes additional air defense systems, artillery, drones, and armored vehicles. The announcement was made by John Kirby, the U.S. National Security Council spokesperson, who emphasized that the U.S. will continue to provide support to Ukraine until the end of the current administration. The package is part of a broader effort to ensure Ukraine is well-equipped going into 2025, with the Biden administration working to surge deliveries of weapons to Ukraine in its final days in office. This aid comes alongside a $20 billion loan to Ukraine, backed by interest from frozen Russian assets, aimed at supporting Ukraine's economic recovery.
