Trump Vows to End Birthright Citizenship, Deport Undocumented Immigrants, Pardon Jan. 6 Rioters, and May Exit NATO
Dec 8, 2024, 06:31 PM
President-elect Donald Trump, in his first major broadcast interview since winning re-election, outlined a series of hard-line policy proposals, including ending birthright citizenship, mass deportations of undocumented immigrants, and pardoning January 6 rioters on his first day in office. Speaking with NBC's Kristen Welker on 'Meet the Press', Trump reiterated his intention to issue an executive order to end automatic citizenship for anyone born in the U.S. Calling birthright citizenship 'ridiculous', he said, 'Well, we're going to have it changed. We have to end it.' Trump also stated his plan to deport all immigrants in the U.S. illegally over his four-year term, including potentially deporting the American citizen family members of those deported to avoid breaking up families. 'I don't want to be breaking up families, so the only way you don't break up the family is you keep them together, and you have to send them all back,' Trump said. Additionally, Trump pledged to issue pardons on his first day for those convicted in connection with the January 6 Capitol attack, claiming they have endured 'overly harsh treatment.' He asserted that members of the House select committee that investigated the attack, including Liz Cheney, 'should go to jail' for their actions. Trump discussed extending his tax cuts and stated he would 'absolutely' consider exiting NATO. His comments signal a return to many of the tough policies he advocated during his previous term.
