Judge Cannon Denies Trump's Bid, Clears Release of Jack Smith's Election Report
Jan 13, 2025, 06:13 PM
A federal judge has authorized the release of special counsel Jack Smith's report on President-elect Donald Trump's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election. U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon denied Trump's attempt to block the release, allowing the Justice Department to publicly release Volume One of the report, which covers the investigation into the former president's actions leading up to the January 6 Capitol attack and attempts to interfere with the 2020 election results. Volume Two, which addresses the classified documents case, remains under seal pending a hearing scheduled for January 17 in Fort Pierce, Florida. The report could be released as early as Tuesday, January 14.
