Stellantis to Reopen Illinois Plant, Add 1,500 Jobs, Shift Durango Production to U.S. After Trump Meeting
Jan 22, 2025, 06:45 PM
Stellantis NV, the parent company of Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge, announced plans to reopen its idle assembly plant in Belvidere, Illinois, bringing back more than 1,500 jobs by moving production from Canada. The automaker will produce a new midsize pickup truck at the Belvidere facility, which had been idled since February 2023. Stellantis will also build the next-generation Dodge Durango at its Detroit complex, shifting production from Canada to the United States. Additionally, the company plans to invest in its manufacturing plants in Ohio and Indiana, including the Toledo Assembly Complex and facilities in Kokomo, Indiana. The announcement comes shortly after a meeting between Stellantis executives and President Donald Trump. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin hailed the decision as a major win for Illinois' economy and union workers returning to the assembly line.
