Lindsey Graham Criticizes Trump's Pardoning of 1,600 Jan. 6 Rioters, Calls It a 'Mistake'
Jan 26, 2025, 05:26 PM
Senator Lindsey Graham, a longstanding ally of President Donald Trump, publicly criticized Trump's decision to pardon 1,600 individuals convicted of violent crimes during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, calling it a 'mistake' that could encourage further violence. Speaking on NBC's 'Meet the Press,' Graham said, 'He had the legal authority to do it, but I fear that you will get more violence. Pardoning the people who went into the Capitol and beat up a police officer violently I think was a mistake, because it seems to suggest that it's an OK thing to do.' He also suggested that continued misuse of the presidential pardon power—potentially including pardons by President Biden to family members—could necessitate reevaluating the constitutional authority.
