Bayer Ordered to Pay $100 Million in Washington PCB Exposure Case at Sky Valley Education Center
Jan 15, 2025, 04:00 AM
A Washington state jury has ordered Bayer, the current owner of Monsanto, to pay $100 million to four individuals who claim they developed health issues from exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at the Sky Valley Education Center in Monroe, Washington. The plaintiffs, part of a larger group of over 200 former students, teachers, and parents, alleged that they suffered from neurological problems due to PCBs in the school's fluorescent light ballasts and caulk. The jury's decision marks the tenth trial related to this issue, with previous verdicts totaling over $1.6 billion against Monsanto. However, the jury found Bayer not liable for the claims of 11 other plaintiffs in the same case. The awarded amount is significantly less than the $4 billion initially sought by the plaintiffs.
