New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced an ambitious plan to build 100,000 new housing units in Manhattan over the next decade, aiming to increase the total number of homes in the borough to 1 million. Dubbed 'The Manhattan Plan,' this initiative is part of Adams' broader strategy to address the city's housing crisis, which includes expanding the 'City of Yes' initiative to facilitate more housing development. The plan seeks to make housing more affordable for families and counteract the trend of rising housing costs that have pushed working-class families out of Manhattan. Adams delivered this announcement during his State of the City address at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, emphasizing the borough's role as a place where families can achieve the American Dream. The scale of the project is likened to creating a second Upper West Side or nine more StuyTown developments. As part of the expansion of 'City of Yes,' dubbed 'City of Yes for Families,' the administration plans to develop 800 new family-focused housing units alongside a new library on the Upper West Side.
