President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Penny Schwinn as the next United States Deputy Secretary of Education. Schwinn, who previously served as the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Education, has a background in education administration, having held various roles at the Texas Education Agency and as the Assistant Secretary of Education in Delaware. A former teacher herself, Schwinn became the founding principal of a charter school, reflecting her commitment to school choice and her belief in returning education policy control to the states. Trump praised Schwinn for these qualities. Schwinn's nomination comes after Trump selected Linda McMahon to lead the Department of Education.
