Drake Withdraws UMG, Spotify Case Over Kendrick Lamar Track After January 14 Agreement
Jan 15, 2025, 03:44 AM
Drake has withdrawn his legal petition against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify following an agreement between the parties on January 14, 2025. The pre-action filing, submitted by Drake's company Frozen Moments, accused UMG and Spotify of colluding to artificially boost the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track "Not Like Us" through payola and bots. Drake also alleged defamation, claiming the track included defamatory content. The withdrawal notice, filed in New York, states the case was discontinued "without costs to any party." While the New York case has been resolved, a related defamation case in Texas remains pending. Representatives for Drake, UMG, and Spotify have not commented on the matter.
