Didier Deschamps to Step Down as France Coach After 2026 World Cup, Ending 14-Year Tenure
Jan 7, 2025, 09:42 PM
Didier Deschamps, the head coach of the French national football team, has announced that he will step down from his position after the 2026 World Cup. Deschamps, who has been at the helm since 2012, led France to victory in the 2018 World Cup and to the final in 2022. His decision not to renew his contract will mark the end of a 14-year tenure with Les Bleus. Deschamps is set to make this announcement official during an interview on TF1's 13-hour news program on Wednesday, alongside Brigitte Macron. His departure will conclude a successful era for French football, during which he also won the UEFA Nations League in 2021 and reached the final of the European Championship in 2016.
