Luigi Mangione, 26, has been indicted in New York on charges of first-degree murder and murder as an act of terrorism in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4 in Midtown Manhattan. After being arrested in Pennsylvania following five days on the run, Mangione appeared in a Pennsylvania court on Thursday, where he waived extradition to New York. He was transported to New York by plane and helicopter and could be arraigned as soon as Thursday. Federal prosecutors have filed additional charges against Mangione, including murder, stalking, and weapons charges, increasing the potential punishment and making him eligible for the death penalty.
