Commanders Release 2023 1st-Round CB Forbes, Rams Claim Him Off Waivers
Dec 2, 2024, 09:35 PM
The Washington Commanders have released cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr., the 16th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, marking the third first-round selection cut by the team's new staff. This move leaves the Commanders without any of their first-round draft picks from 2019 to 2023 on the roster. Forbes was let go to make room for the anticipated return of Marshon Lattimore, with the team's head coach, Dan Quinn, suggesting that a change of scenery could benefit Forbes. The decision to release Forbes comes with significant financial implications for the Commanders, who will incur dead cap hits of $8.5 million in 2024 and $4.1 million in 2025. Forbes has been claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Rams, where he will reunite with former teammate Kam Curl. The Rams, in turn, waived rookie CB Charles Woods to accommodate Forbes on their roster. Forbes' contract with the Rams includes $5.4 million fully guaranteed through the 2026 season.
