Trump Tours Los Angeles Wildfire Damage, Meets Newsom Amid Relief Efforts
Jan 24, 2025, 11:14 PM
President Donald Trump arrived in Los Angeles on Friday to tour the devastation caused by wildfires that have ravaged the area, including the Palisades and Eaton fires. Upon landing at Los Angeles International Airport, Trump was greeted by California Governor Gavin Newsom, despite recent disputes and criticisms exchanged between the two over the handling of the fires and state policies. During their brief exchange on the tarmac, Newsom thanked the president for visiting, saying, "Thank you for being here. It means a great deal to all of us. We're going to need your support. We're going to need your help. You were there for us during COVID. I don't forget that." Trump responded, "I appreciate the governor coming out and meeting me. We want to get the problem fixed. It looks like you got hit by a bomb." The wildfires, which broke out earlier this month, have caused extensive damage, leaving at least 28 people dead. Trump's visit includes plans to survey fire-ravaged communities such as the Palisades area, meet with local officials, and visit a firehouse to discuss relief efforts.
