Trump Pardons Over 1,500 January 6 Defendants; Proud Boys' Tarrio, Oath Keepers' Rhodes Released
Jan 21, 2025, 05:05 PM
Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio and Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes have been released from prison following President Donald Trump's granting of clemency to over 1,500 defendants convicted in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Tarrio, who was serving a 22-year sentence for seditious conspiracy at a medium-security prison in Louisiana, was released on Tuesday, despite not being present in Washington D.C. during the riot. Rhodes, from North Texas, who was serving an 18-year sentence, had his sentence commuted by Trump. The clemency order, issued shortly after Trump's return to the White House, has led to the release of several other high-profile January 6 defendants, effectively wiping away their lengthy prison sentences.
