Islamic State Claims Suicide Bombing Killing Khalil Haqqani, Taliban Minister, in Kabul
Dec 12, 2024, 08:16 AM
Khalil Haqqani, the Taliban's Minister of Refugees, was killed in a suicide bombing in Kabul, an attack claimed by the Islamic State's Khurasan Province (ISKP). The attack targeted Haqqani as he was leaving his office, with the assailant reportedly hiding explosives in a cast on his arm. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemned the attack, stating that 'there can be no place for terrorism in the quest for stability.' The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also condemned the attack, calling for the swift prosecution of those responsible. Pakistan, Qatar, Hamas, and the European Union have all expressed their condemnation of the incident, with Pakistan's Foreign Office seeking details of the event. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its allies expressed condolences for Haqqani's death.
