President Donald Trump, on his inauguration day, issued an executive order mandating that the U.S. flag be flown at full-staff on all future Inauguration Days. This order came into effect immediately, superseding the previous directive to keep flags at half-staff for 30 days following the death of former President Jimmy Carter. The White House flag, which had been at half-staff in honor of Carter, was raised to full-staff shortly after Trump's swearing-in ceremony.
