Dec 22, 2024, 02:58 PM
The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired left-handed pitcher Jesús Luzardo and catcher Paul McIntosh from the Miami Marlins in exchange for shortstop prospect Starlyn Caba and outfielder Emaarion Boyd. Luzardo, who made 50 starts in 2022 and 2023 with a 3.43 FIP and 328 strikeouts over 279 innings, is under team control through 2026 and projected to earn $8.6 million in arbitration in 2025. The addition bolsters the Phillies' rotation, which now includes Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez, Ranger Suárez, and Luzardo. Caba, 19, is considered one of the best defensive shortstops in the minor leagues and was ranked No. 4 in the Phillies' system by MLB Pipeline and No. 54 in Baseball America's Top 100.
