Brazil's Federal Police Indicts Five Former PRF Directors for Hindering Northeast Voters to Favor Bolsonaro in 2022 Election

The Brazilian Federal Police (PF) has indicted five former directors and coordinators of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) for allegedly attempting to interfere in the 2022 presidential election. The PF concluded an investigation that found the PRF conducted illegal operations aimed at impeding the movement of voters in the Northeast during the second round, targeting potential supporters of then-candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to favor then-President Jair Bolsonaro. High-level PRF officials admitted to pressure and irregularities in election monitoring. PRF officers provided statements confirming these irregularities in plans to intensify inspections of voter transportation in the region. The indicted officials join former PRF Director-General Silvinei Vasques and ex-Minister of Justice Anderson Torres, who were indicted in August 2024 for their roles in the same episode.
