President Donald Trump has granted full and unconditional pardons to two former Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department officers, Andrew Zabavsky and Terence Sutton, who were convicted in connection with the 2020 death of 20-year-old Karon Hylton-Brown. The incident occurred during an unauthorized police pursuit on October 23, 2020, when Hylton-Brown, riding a moped without a helmet, was chased by the officers and subsequently struck by another vehicle, resulting in his death from severe head trauma two days later. Zabavsky was convicted of conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice and sentenced to 48 months in prison, while Sutton was found guilty of second-degree murder, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and obstruction of justice, receiving a 66-month sentence in September 2024. The officers had remained free pending the outcome of their appeals.
