An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck off the coast of El Salvador on Sunday, January 5, 2025. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 87 km, with the epicenter located about 68 km south of San Salvador, offshore from La Paz. The tremor was felt across El Salvador and in neighboring countries Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the magnitude was reported between 6.1 and 6.3. The earthquake caused at least 27 aftershocks in the same area. There are no immediate reports of damage or casualties, and no tsunami warning was issued. President Nayib Bukele confirmed the details of the earthquake.
