Chicago Public Schools officials initially reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempted to enter Hamline Elementary School on the city's Southwest Side on Friday morning but were denied entry. However, it was later clarified by the U.S. Secret Service that their agents, not ICE, had visited the school. The Secret Service was investigating a threat related to the TikTok ban and had first visited a nearby home before approaching the school. The agents identified themselves to the school principal and left their business cards, departing without incident. Chicago Public Schools acknowledged the misunderstanding, attributing it to fears and concerns within the community amid the new administration's focus on undocumented immigrants.
