Miami-Dade Renames Street 'President Donald J. Trump Avenue' After First GOP Win Since 1988
Dec 3, 2024, 06:32 PM
Miami-Dade County has approved the renaming of Palm Avenue in Hialeah as "President Donald J. Trump Avenue" following President Donald J. Trump's historic victory in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. This marks the first time since 1988 that a Republican presidential candidate has won Miami-Dade County, traditionally a Democratic stronghold. Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera announced the county commission's decision to honor President Trump's accomplishments and legacy of championing freedom and opportunity by co-designating the avenue, a vital thoroughfare in Hialeah. Hialeah, with a population nearly 75% Cuban or Cuban American and one of the largest Hispanic populations per capita in the U.S., reflects the significant shift in voter sentiment. Trump signed one of the street signs while attending a memorial in the city. Democratic members of the county board declined to block the tribute, highlighting the county's political realignment, where Trump won by 11 points.
