Chip Roy and Five Other Republicans Refuse House Speaker Vote, Risking GOP Majority to Hakeem Jeffries
Jan 3, 2025, 06:25 PM
Several Republican representatives, including Rep. Andy Biggs, Rep. Michael Cloud, Rep. Paul Gosar, Rep. Andy Harris, Rep. Andrew Clyde, and Rep. Chip Roy, did not vote when their names were called during the first round of voting for the House Speaker. Rep. Chip Roy, the sixth Republican to abstain, stood silently in the aisle when his name was called, refusing to vote. This refusal to vote has put the Republican party at risk of losing the Speakership to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Notably, two Republicans have voted against the presumed Republican candidate, Johnson.
