The rings, commemorating the Yankees' four championships during Giuliani's tenure as mayor, were given to him by the team's late owner, George Steinbrenner, in 2002, with Steinbrenner insisting Giuliani pay for them. Giuliani contends that the rings, valued at approximately $27,000, were intended for his son, Andrew, and should not be surrendered. He officially gifted the rings to Andrew during his 2018 birthday party. The dispute is part of broader legal proceedings involving Giuliani's assets, including a contempt hearing on January 5 and an upcoming trial on January 16 to determine the fate of the rings and other properties, such as his Palm Beach condominium. The case stems from a defamation lawsuit brought by two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, whom Giuliani falsely accused of election fraud. Lawyers for Freeman and Moss argue Giuliani has failed to comply with court orders to turn over assets.
