Russia Strikes Ukraine with 93 Missiles, 200 Drones; Ukraine Hits Back in Chechnya, Crimea
Dec 15, 2024, 07:57 AM
Russia launched a significant missile and drone attack on Ukraine, targeting its energy infrastructure. According to Ukrainian and Russian sources, the assault involved 93 missiles and nearly 200 drones, marking one of the largest attacks on Ukraine's energy sector since the onset of hostilities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that this week alone, Russia used almost 630 guided aerial bombs, about 550 attack drones, and over 100 missiles of various types against Ukraine. The Ukrainian air defense managed to shoot down 81 missiles, with 11 downed by F-16 jets. The attack caused widespread power outages and destruction across Ukraine, with no casualties reported. In retaliation, Ukrainian drones struck Russian military bases in Grozny, Chechnya, targeting key facilities including an OMON riot police base and a military base linked to the Russian war effort. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov confirmed the drone strikes and vowed to retaliate against Ukrainian forces. Additionally, Ukrainian forces destroyed a train carrying fuel in Crimea, disrupting a key supply route for Russian troops.
