IDF Begins Recruitment for New Ultra-Orthodox Hasmonean Brigade with 50 Soldiers and 100 Older Haredi Men Enlisted

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has initiated the first recruitment cycle for its new ultra-Orthodox brigade, known as the Hasmonean Brigade. Approximately 50 ultra-Orthodox soldiers have been drafted, forming the core of the brigade's first company. In addition to these recruits, another 100 older ultra-Orthodox men are also being enlisted into the brigade. This recruitment marks a significant step in integrating the ultra-Orthodox community into the military, which has faced challenges in encouraging enlistment among this demographic. Israeli politician Yair Lapid expressed support for the new recruits, emphasizing the importance of their contribution to national defense.
