YouTube TV Raises Price 14% to $82.99 per Month, a 137% Increase Since Launch
Dec 12, 2024, 03:55 PM
Starting January 13, 2025, YouTube TV will increase its monthly subscription price from $72.99 to $82.99, a 14% hike attributed to the "rising cost of content and the investments we make in the quality of our service." This adjustment brings the annual cost close to $1,000 and represents a 137% increase since its debut at $35 per month in 2017. Over the past five years, the service has nearly doubled its price from $40 to $83 per month while removing channels such as regional sports networks and the MLB Network. The new pricing approaches that of traditional cable packages, prompting some subscribers to consider alternatives like Sling TV or returning to cable. YouTube TV's price hike reflects a broader industry trend of rising streaming costs amid increasing competition and content expenses.
