Israel Discloses September Raid: 120 Commandos Destroy Iranian Missile Facility in Syria
Jan 2, 2025, 05:51 PM
Israel has officially confirmed that its special forces conducted a covert operation on September 8, 2024, targeting an underground Iranian missile production facility near Masyaf in Hama province, Syria. The operation, code-named 'Operation Many Ways,' involved 120 commandos from the elite Shaldag Unit, who were airlifted deep into Syrian territory before the fall of the Assad regime. The soldiers eliminated guards, retrieved intelligence documents, and destroyed the underground site, which was built into the side of a mountain and code-named 'Deep Layer' by Iran. The facility, funded by Iran, was capable of producing 150 to 300 precision-guided missiles annually for Hezbollah and the Syrian regime. The mission, coordinated across air, ground, and naval units, lasted approximately two and a half hours and is highlighted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as one of their most daring and complex commando operations ever undertaken. The IDF released declassified footage and details of the operation, emphasizing its significance in preventing advanced weaponry from reaching Iran's proxies.
