U.S. Sanctions Integrity Technology Group for Role in Flax Typhoon Attacks on Critical Infrastructure
Jan 5, 2025, 05:00 PM
The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Integrity Technology Group, a Beijing-based cybersecurity firm, for its involvement in cyberattacks linked to the Flax Typhoon hacking group. These attacks targeted critical U.S. infrastructure, affecting at least 260,000 internet-connected devices, with roughly half located in the United States. The Flax Typhoon group, also known as RedJuliett, has been active since at least 2021 and is believed to operate under the direction of the Chinese government. The sanctions come in response to Integrity Technology Group's role in enabling these state-sponsored cyber intrusions, which exploited vulnerabilities in IoT devices and targeted government agencies, corporations, universities, and telecommunications providers across multiple continents.
