The German Defense Ministry, under the leadership of the left-wing SPD party, along with the Bundeswehr, has announced the suspension of their activities on the social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, citing the increasing difficulty in maintaining a factual exchange of arguments. The decision, effective immediately, means that no new posts will be made on their X accounts in the foreseeable future. This move follows similar actions by other German public institutions, including over 60 universities, which have also withdrawn from the platform due to concerns over its alignment with values such as scientific integrity and democratic discourse. The Defense Ministry has indicated that it will shift its communication to a WhatsApp channel for sharing updates on relevant events, decisions, and news, although it reserves the right to respond on X in exceptional cases, such as disinformation campaigns.
