South Korean President Yoon Banned from Leaving Country over Martial Law Declaration
Dec 9, 2024, 07:16 AM
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been banned from leaving the country as prosecutors investigate his brief declaration of martial law last Tuesday. The travel ban was imposed by the Justice Ministry following orders from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials. Prosecutors are examining whether Yoon's actions constituted treason, insurrection, mutiny, and abuse of power. The Justice Ministry informed a parliamentary committee hearing of the ban amid a deepening leadership crisis and growing calls for Yoon to step down. Yoon's former defense minister has also been arrested in connection with the investigation. The martial law, declared last week, was lifted six hours later.
