An explosion at an explosives manufacturing factory in the village of Kavaklı, Karesi district, Balıkesir province, western Turkey, on December 24, 2024, killed 11 workers—eight women and three men—and injured seven others, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. The factory is owned by ZSR company. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the blast, with initial assessments indicating no suspicion of sabotage. Senior officials, including Interior Minister Yerlikaya, Defense Minister Güler, and Labor Minister Işıkhan, visited the site and the injured at the hospital. The identities of the victims have been released.
