According to the Spanish NGO Caminando Fronteras, at least 10,457 migrants have died or disappeared while attempting to reach Spain in 2024, marking the deadliest year since tracking began in 2007. This represents a 58% increase from the previous year and an average of nearly 30 deaths per day. The Atlantic route to the Canary Islands remains the most lethal worldwide, accounting for 9,757 victims.
