Syrian National Army Seizes Tishrin Dam from PKK/YPG, Securing Key Electricity Source
Dec 13, 2024, 12:26 PM
The Syrian National Army (SNA) has seized control of the Tishrin Dam on the Euphrates River from the PKK/YPG terrorist group, marking a significant advancement in northern Syria. The operation, part of the 'Dawn of Freedom' initiative, saw the SNA liberating the dam which has been under PKK/YPG control since 2015 with US support. The Tishrin Dam, located south of Manbij along the Suleiman Shah Road, is crucial as it supplies about 70% of Syria's electricity needs along with the Tabqa and Ba'ath dams. This move comes after the SNA took back Tal Rifaat and Manbij earlier this month, continuing their efforts to clear the region of terrorist forces. The United States had established a base at the dam in January 2016.
