Kadyrov Proposes Removing HTS from Russia's Terrorist List to Prevent Humanitarian Crisis
Dec 16, 2024, 02:20 PM
Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Russia's Chechnya region, has proposed the removal of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from Russia's list of terrorist organizations. This suggestion comes in the wake of HTS's key role in the recent change of power in Syria, where the group played a pivotal part in the ousting of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. Kadyrov's proposal aims to facilitate cooperation with the new Syrian authorities and to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. The move is seen as an attempt to mitigate tensions between Russia and the new Syrian regime, amidst efforts by the collective West to escalate conflict. Kadyrov also offered to send Chechen security forces to Syria to maintain order on the streets.
