Dominique Pelicot Will Not Appeal 20-Year Sentence in Mazan Mass Rape Case as 17 Others File Appeals
Dec 30, 2024, 07:06 AM
Dominique Pelicot, convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for drugging his ex-wife, Gisèle Pelicot, and facilitating her rape by dozens of men in Mazan, has decided not to appeal his conviction, his lawyer, Béatrice Zavarro, announced on Monday. "He has decided not to appeal the verdict against him," Zavarro stated, adding, "He believes it would be a new ordeal for his wife." His decision comes as 17 of the 51 convicted individuals have filed appeals, which will require a second full trial and could be a renewed ordeal for the victim. The appeals must be filed by midnight on Monday, and the public prosecutor has the same deadline to file incidental or general appeals.
