66-Year-Old Former Labour MP Ivor Caplin Arrested at Hove Station in Child Sex Offence Sting
Jan 11, 2025, 08:59 PM
Former Labour MP Ivor Caplin, a 66-year-old who was born into a Jewish family, was arrested in Brighton on suspicion of engaging in online sexual communications with a child. The arrest took place at Hove Station following a sting operation conducted by a group of online paedophile hunters, which was live-streamed on Facebook, amassing significant online attention. Caplin, who served as the MP for Hove from 1997 to 2005 and held positions such as junior defence minister and minister for Veterans, was also the chair of the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) in 2018. He was suspended from the Labour Party in June 2024 due to undisclosed serious allegations. Sussex Police confirmed that a 66-year-old man was taken into custody on January 11, and the investigation remains active. Caplin denies any wrongdoing. Additionally, police searched his £350,000 home in connection with the arrest.
