Elon Musk Moves SpaceX HQ to Newly Incorporated Starbase City in Texas
Dec 13, 2024, 05:01 AM
SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, has formally initiated the process to incorporate its Starbase site in South Texas into an official city. On Thursday, December 12, 2024, SpaceX General Manager Kathy Lueders sent a letter to Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., requesting an election to decide the incorporation of Starbase. The idea of turning Starbase into a city was first expressed by Musk in 2021. Elon Musk announced on social media platform X, stating, "SpaceX HQ will now officially be in the city of Starbase, Texas!" The incorporation would transform the Starbase community, including Boca Chica Beach, where SpaceX builds and launches its massive Starship rockets, into a fully recognized municipality. The site currently employs over 3,400 full-time SpaceX employees and contractors. Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed support for the decision.
