Duffy and Folcik Arrested for Hazardous Drone Operation Near Logan Airport, Third Suspect Flees
Dec 15, 2024, 03:25 PM
Two men, Robert Duffy, 42, of Charlestown, and Jeremy Folcik, 32, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, were arrested by the Boston Police Harbor Patrol Unit on Long Island, part of the Boston Harbor Islands, for what police described as a 'hazardous drone operation' near Logan International Airport. The incident began when a drone was detected flying dangerously close to the airport's airspace. The officers used advanced monitoring technology to locate the drone and its operators. Upon arriving at the decommissioned Long Island Health Campus, three individuals were found, but only Duffy and Folcik were apprehended after a brief foot chase. A drone was discovered in Duffy's backpack. The third suspect reportedly fled in a small vessel, and the search for him continues. Duffy and Folcik face charges of trespassing, with further charges potentially forthcoming. They are scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court. The Boston Police Department coordinated with Homeland Security, the Massachusetts State Police, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and Logan Airport Air Traffic Control to address the situation. The police remind recreational drone operators of the importance of adhering to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety guidelines, which prohibit flying drones over people or vehicles and require awareness of airspace restrictions.
