Bodycam Shows Islamic State-Inspired Attacker Killing 14 in New Orleans Before Shooting at Police
Jan 10, 2025, 08:30 PM
New Orleans police have released body camera footage on Friday showing the shootout that led to the death of the New Year's Day attacker, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who killed 14 people and injured 35 others in a truck rampage on Bourbon Street. The footage shows Jabbar firing at officers from behind an airbag inside his crashed truck before police fatally shot him. Two officers were injured in the exchange. NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick stated that, due to the ongoing investigation and pending litigation, they won't disclose how many shots Jabbar fired. The attack was inspired by the Islamic State group, which has commented on the incident in its weekly paper al-Naba, praising it but suggesting that the attacker was influenced by the group's rhetoric rather than directly directed by them.
