Northwest Naturals Issues 2-Pound Feline Turkey Recipe Pet Food Recall After Cat Death Linked to H5N1 Bird Flu
Dec 26, 2024, 02:46 AM
Northwest Naturals, a Portland-based pet food company, has issued a voluntary recall of its 2-pound Feline Turkey Recipe Raw & Frozen pet food due to contamination with the H5N1 bird flu virus. This decision follows the tragic death of a house cat in Oregon, which contracted the virus after consuming the contaminated food. The Oregon Department of Agriculture confirmed the link between the cat's death and the pet food. The affected product was distributed across 12 U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington, as well as in British Columbia, Canada. Consumers are advised to discard any product with a sell-by date between May 21, 2026, and June 23, 2026. The recall highlights growing concerns regarding the safety of pet food amid rising instances of bird flu contamination.
